Hutt Old Boys Marist RFC (The Eagles) is based at the Hutt Recreation Ground in Lower Hutt.
In 2012 the club won its second Wellington Premier club rugby prize in five years when it captured the Swindale Shield (pictured right). In 2007, the club won the Jubilee Cup for the first time in the amalgamated club's history.?
In 2013, HOBM finished third in the Swindale Shield and were tracking well for a return to the Jubilee Cup semi-finals later in the season. Their Senior 2 side won the first round National Mutual Cup, playing through the first round unbeaten, and earned promotion to the Senior 1 grade, while their Colts finished second in their first round competition.?
In June 2013, HOBM lock Jeremy Thrush made his Test debut for the All Blacks against France.?
HOBM has shown that without having to “import” players, it is competitive in many grades.? This follows a deliberate programme of developing the club from its “grassroots” - putting heavy emphasis on our age grade teams with the full knowledge that sustained success at this level will ultimately bring rewards at a higher level.?
HOBM has well-established links with a number of Hutt Valley colleges and we provide support to assist these colleges in developing their rugby. Over the last few years the club has continued to strengthen its work in this area.
At HOBM the club season is extended by the way of an established 7’s programme, which competes competitively at various tournaments locally and throughout NZ.
HOBM recognises that there is life outside rugby and that to be successful our players require discipline on and off the field. The club wishes to see every one of its players in paid work and we can assist through our network of supporters and their businesses to provide possible employment opportunities.
