Hutt Old Boys MaristHutt Old Boys Marist RFC (The Eagles) is based at the Hutt Recreation Ground in Lower Hutt. In 2006 the Club fielded 8 senior men’s teams, a women’s team and schoolboys’ teams.
HOBM has shown that without having to “import” players, it is competitive in many grades. This follows a deliberate programme of developing the club from its “grassroots” - putting heavy emphasis on our age grade teams with the full knowledge that sustained success at this level will ultimately bring rewards at a higher level. 2006 results: Premiers - top 4 of the both Swindale Shield and Jubilee Cup, Snr 1 - promoted to Hardham Cup, Women - winners of the Victoria Tavern Trophy, Colts - top 3. It is also pleasing to see a number of our players in the Hurricanes, Vodafone Wellington Lions, Wellington B and Age Grade representative teams. HOBM also has national representatives in Jeremy Thrush (NZ U21), Hosea Gear (NZ Maori). HOBM has well-established links with a number of Hutt Valley colleges and we provide support to assist these colleges in developing their rugby. Over the last few years the club has continued to strengthen its work in this area through our club CCO - Yogi Rogers, working with schools, developing player skills and spreading the rugby gospel amongst students of all ages. HOBM competes competitively in the Colt’s A grade, reaching the finals 3 times in the last 6 years, making our club one of the most successful at Colts level. HOBM entered a U19 team in 2005, reaching the final in their first season. Our 80/80 teams have also competed successfully in their grades. The club also fields a very strong women’s team, comprising a mixture of experience and youth, including a number of Wellington Pride players. At HOBM the club season is extended by the way of an established 7’s programme, which competes competitively at various tournaments locally and throughout NZ. HOBM recognises that there is life outside rugby and that to be successful our players require discipline on and off the field. The club wishes to see every one of its players in paid work and we can assist through our network of supporters and their businesses to provide possible employment opportunities. We welcome all players to experience what the Eagles have to offer. |
