Old Boys-University: Lima Sopoaga

Lima Sopoaga playing for OBU against Poneke on artificial turf at Te Whaea in 2010.

Out of Wellington College and the oldest of six siblings, Lima Sopoaga first played for the Wellington Lions in 2010 after playing a full season at pivot for Old Boys University. He made his ITM Cup debut against Manawatu and played 20 times for the Lions in 2010 and 2011.

He joined the Highlanders in the Super Rugby competition in 2011 and made his debut at first five-eighth in a season opening 14-9 win over the Hurricanes, scoring the match winning try. In total he played six games and scored 51 points in his debut Super Rugby season, a rookie season that was also hampered by a shoulder injury.

In June 2011, Sopoaga linked up with the New Zealand U20 team, helping them to retain the Junior World Championship title in Italy.

Returning to the Highlanders in 2012, Sopoaga broke his ?shoulder in March, sidelining him for almost six months to the day before he came off the bench for the Lions against Waikato.

In his final year of school in 2009, Sopoaga captained Wellington College, scoring 265 points throughout the season, and was the New Zealand Schools first five-eighth.

His middle brother Tupou Sopoaga played for the New Zealand Schools side in 2010 as a loose forward and played rugby league for the Canterbury Bulldogs U20 team in 2012. His younger brother Ezekiel, a hooker who can also play prop, was named in the inaugural New Zealand Schools Barbarians team in September 2012.
