Old and new faces in a club rugby XV

Above: Hutt Old Boys wing Chase Tiatia and Ories fullback Matt Proctor chase up a kick in Saturday's Jubilee Cup semi-final between the two sides.

OPINION: With 19 of 20 rounds in the books and just this Sunday's Hardham Cup and Jubilee Cup final to come, commentator and contributor Adam Julian has submitted his Wellington Premier rugby Club Team of the Year. Adam's team is:

15. Tau Mamea (Wanuiomata) - Mamea played two games for Wellington last season and should add to that tally in 2014.? The versatile back has scored eight tries and impressed with his flair and consistent involvement.

14. Matt Procter (Ories) - Played eight games this year and scored eight tries. Procter is equally comfortable at fullback and his fine all-round attacking game ensures he is one of the best back prospects in the Wellington. Procter should get a plenty of ITM Cup game time this year. ?

13.Paulo Aukuso (Ories) - One of the most underrated midfielders in Wellington, Aukuso played his 150th game on Saturday. Aukuso has a devastating right hand fend, explosiveness off the mark and a long, accurate, sweeping pass in both directions. Defensively solid, Aukuso has been a fine servant for Ories.

12. Nick Grigg (Petone) - In the last two years the stocky second-five has scored 18 tries. Grigg is far from the biggest midfielder in Wellington, but he is a very incisive runner. Deceptively strong he runs great lines and causes problems for the defence every week.

11. Chase Tiatia (HOBM) - A brilliant season by the first year school leaver, Tiatia has scored 16 tries and at least one try against every side he was played. Capable of covering first-five, wing or fullback, Tiatia's acceleration, quick footwork and intelligence has seen him quickly become one of the most exciting players in the competition. With continued development he has a big future in the game.

10. Fa'atonu Fili (MSP) - Another brilliant season by Fili who passed the milestone of 150 games for MSP. He was the leading points scorer in Premier rugby in 2014 with 204 points. His flair and tactical nous guided MSP to the Swindale Shield title.

9. Peter Sciascia (MSP) - A consistent and durable performer, Sciascia has had another solid season in tandem with his old mate Fa'atonu Fili, they complement each other perfectly. Sciascia is a smart and bustling halfback who has been very unlucky to never get a game for the Wellington Lions.

8. Ben Tupuola (Wainuiomata) - One of the feel good stories of the season, Tupuola has returned from two shoulder reconstructions to win the Billy Wallace Best & Fairest competition, judged by Dominion Post reporters. Tupuola packs in at a meaty 135kg and he uses every ounce of that bulk when he runs! Tupuola is more than just a big guy who runs though. His ability to offload in contact creates chances for further attack and his defensive hustle for big man is very good. Petone's captain Josh Hrstich?also enjoyed an especially outstanding season in the No. 8 jersey.

7. Jason Risdon (HOBM) - A warrior of a player, Risdon's tireless defence and breakdown hustle is a big reason why Hutt Old Boys Marist is in the final. However Risdon has shown an ability to win regular lineout ball and carry strongly this year as well. Like a fine wine, gets better with age!

6. Murphy Taramai (Upper Hutt Rams) - The Upper Hutt Rams were a fiercely competitive outfit in 2014, missing the Jubilee Cup semi-finals by a solitary point. A big reason for the Maroons resurgence was Murphy Taramai. The rugby league convert is not the biggest loose-forward, but his workrate is outstanding. He is abrasive on both defence and attack and his link play is outstanding.

5. Glen Angus (Wainuiomata) - The most mobile lock in the competition, Angus is effectively a fourth loose forward for the green and blacks. He is often used wide on attack, but he performs his core rolls well. His kick off reception is especially good.

4. Pati Gaualofa (Tawa) - Another consistent season by a tough player who covers both six and eight. Gaualofa carries powerfully, has improved in the lineouts and has a good workrate in defense.

3. Justin Va'a (Wanuiomata) - The veteran of 24 tests for Samoa and 139 games for Wainuiomata has been rarely bettered in the scrums. His workrate and leadership is a big reason for Wanuiomata's success. An inspirational figure!

2. James O'Reilly (Hutt) - O'Reilly underwhelmed for the New Zealand U20s at the IRB Junior World Championships, but has shown his quality again in club rugby. Steady at scrum time, accurate with his throwing, O'Reilly's speed around the field adds much zest to the Hutt Old Boys Marist forward pack. With continued development O'Reilly looks to be set for a big future.

1. Simon Malaeulu?(HOBM) - Always strong with ball in hand, Malaeulu has improved his work rate this year. He is playing a lot tighter and this is helping HOBM win a consistent supply of ball. Malaeulu?is especially effective at controlling the ball at the back of mauls, mauling has been a big strength of Hutt's play this year.

Next week, we'll publish our second annual Best & Fairest XV. This is based on the most points accumulated throughout the season in the weekly Best & Fairest competition.
