Loads of representative rugby tomorrow

Above: The Wellington and Manawatu U19s pack down a scrum in their match last week at Palmerston North. Wellington plays Taranaki at Porirua Park tomorrow, while Manawatu meet Hawke's Bay.

A big day of local representative tomorrow at the Petone Recreation Ground and Porirua Park launches the countdown to the All Blacks meeting South Africa in their Rugby Championship Test matches at Westpac Stadium in the evening.

Wellington representative teams in action tomorrow afternoon include the Wellington Development, Wellington Samoans, Wellington U19s, Wellington 18s, Wellington U18 Centurions, and two Academy fixtures are also being played.

Top billing is the two matches back-to-back at Porirua Park, where the Wellington U19s host the Taranaki U19s at 12.30 pm and the Wellington Development and Wellington Samoans teams square off against each other at 2.30 pm.

At Petone, the Centurions U18s play East Coast at 12.30 pm followed by the Wellington U18s playing the Wairarapa Bush U18s at 2.00 pm.

Also at Petone, the Petone Ken Gray Academy and the Northern United Academy meet at 1.00 pm, while in town at Prince of Wales Park the Hutt Old Boys Marist Academy and Western Bays U18s square off.

The Wellington Development XV warm up their engines for the first of five fixtures when they play the Wellington Samoans at Porirua. Both sides will be fresh, with the majority of the players having had last weekend off following the WRFU Festival series in August.

Following this, the Development side is scheduled to meet their counterparts from Manawatu, Hawke's Bay, Tasman and Bay of Plenty.? All these games are away, so this is the last time many of these players will be sighted on home soil this year.

The Wellington Samoans, buoyant with this week's news that their national team will host the All Blacks in Apia next July, are playing the first of three consecutive matches at Porirua Park. This is followed by fixtures against the Hawke's Bay Saracens and Manawatu Development.

All eyes will be on the early game at Porirua between the Wellington and Taranaki U19s in the second round of the Hurricanes region U19 Seeding Tournament.

Both sides are coming of wins last week, the Wellington U19s beating Manawatu 33-15 and the Taranaki U19s overcoming Hawke's Bay 29-18.

The Wellington Samoan Secondary Schools play Wanganui and Horowhenua-Kapiti play Wairarapa-Bush in Palmerston North in the second round of the U19 Hurricanes Development series.

The Wellington U18s play the first of three matches in the Hurricanes region U18 tournament when they play the Wairarapa Bush U18s. Their matches to follow are against Poverty Bay and Hawke's Bay (both away).

The Centurions meet East Coast, ahead of fixtures against Hawke's Bay in Palmerston North and Wairarapa-Bush at Porirua Park.

Hawke's Bay meets Poverty Bay at Wairoa in the other Hurricanes U18 competition match tomorrow.

The Wellington U16s and U16s Development sides play under lights at Te Whaea at 6.00 pm Friday. Both these sides are gearing up for the Hurricanes region U16 tournament in Napier from 29 September to 2 October.

The Wellington Lions and Wellington Pride Men's and Women's NPC sides are in Christchurch this weekend, the Lions playing the Canterbury Lambs in tonight's ITM Cup clash and the Pride meeting Canterbury tomorrow ?for the JJ Stewart Trophy in the Women's NPC. Both are searching for their first competition wins.

In other news, 31 percent of the 51 players selected this year in the New Zealand Schools camp come from the Hurricanes region - seven from Wellington, four from Hawke's Bay, two from Manawatu and one each from Poverty Bay, Wanganui and Wairarapa-Bush.
