UPDATED: St Pats Silverstream has won the Wellington Condor Sevens secondary schools title, rallying from 14-0 down and scoring a last-minute try to defeat Scots College, 17-14.

Silverstream attacked initially and breaks by Sione Uvea and Joe Apikotoa had them pressing inside the 22.

However two mistakes resulted in two runaway tries for Scots. Malo Manao scored the first try sprinting 65-metres from a fumble and then Manao and Thomas Umaga-Jensen linked to put TJ Va’a under the posts.?

Both teams were reduced to six players for cynical fouls late in the first-half, but no further scoring occurred, 14-0 to Scots at the break.

Silverstream’s Salesi Rayasi hit back early in the second-half. Receiving the ball on the wing, Rayasi went around Peter Umaga-Jensen and dashed 75-metres to score under the posts, 14-5. Unfortunately Rayasi missed the straight forward conversion.

Silverstream started to win a consistent supply of ball and a break and 50-meter burst by Lester Maulolo reduced the deficit to two points.

Scots tried to hold possession and won four penalties in a row to advance the play into Silverstream’s half. Silverstream’s defence was tenacious and eventually Asafo Aumua and Daniel Schrijvers combined to win a tackle turnover.?
?
As the hooter sounded Silverstream commenced the last attack. Schrijvers dodged and weaved 20-meters to get the ball into the Scots half and then a quick recycle resulted in an overlap down the right-wing side and NZ Schools lock Lui Okeamoa-Luamanu crashed over to win the game for Silverstream.

Both Scots and Silverstream will attend the Condor Sevens in Auckland in November. Both schools have the pace, power and structure to be a geninue threat in the tournament.?

Wellington East defended their Girls title, beating St Catherine’s 29-12 in their final.?

It was close early, but St Catherine’s conceded a yellow card and Wellington East ran clear – Georgia Broughton scoring a hat-trick for the winners.?

The two finals were a culmination of an exciting day’s play, after early rain cleared to produce some sizzling on-field action.?

St Bernard’s College, coached by Hutt Old Boys Marist stalwarts and 2001 SBC champion teammates Daniel Olive and Nick Risdon, caused the first upset of the crossover rounds, defeating St Pat’s Town 14-12. ?St Bernard’s scored and converted the winning points with the last play of the game.

Scots College scored 36 unanswered points after conceding the game’s opening try in beating Wellington College in their semi-final, while St Bernard’s pushed Silverstream close in their Cup semi-final and were leading 12-7 early in the second half in their Cup semi-final before going down 12-19. Asafo Amua made a 60-metre burst down the touchline, turning the fullback inside-out in the latter game.

Both boys Plate semi-fnals were tight. Rongotai College won their way into the Boys Plate final with an extra time win over Tawa College after scores had been locked up at 14-14 at regular fulltime and St Pat’s Town scored the winning try with the last play of the game to beat Bishop Viard College 22-19.?
?
St Pat's Town defeated Rongotai College 24-12 in the Plate final. ?
