Fourth round of the Fleurs Trophy on Saturday

The Wellington Women's Fleurs Trophy rolls into round four, with games reverting to Saturday after last week’s Friday night round.

The feature clash of the round will be at Nairnville Park where the Old Boys-University Impalas take on the Avalon SHE-Wolves. Both sides had last weekend off, OBU having the scheduled bye while Avalon’s match against Wainuiomata was deferred until a yet-to-be-determined date. In fact Avalon haven’t played since the first round of the season nearly a month ago, so OBU may look to take advantage of that early on.

At the other end of the table Poneke and Tawa meet at Kilbirnie Park. Not only are both sides winless, neither has scored a point in play, so both will be looking to address that and then push on for the victory. This could go either way, it’ll be a real arm wrestle, or there will either be a heap of tries scored; here’s hoping for the latter rather than former.

Hutt Old Boys Marist notched their second win when they accounted for Johnsonville. They’ll get a real indication of where they stand when they host defending champions Oriental-Rongotai in the somewhat unfamiliar setting of Lower Hutt’s Trafalgar Park. The Lady Magpies easily saw off Poneke to retain their perfect record, blemished only by the 12 points they conceded to OBU in their first match of the season.

The final match of the round is at Mary Crowther Park, where Wainuiomata welcome newcomers Johnsonville. The home side were shutout by Ories in their last outing two weeks ago, but will be heavy favourites to do the same to a Hawks side that are having to find their feet quickly at this level.

Norths have the week off with the bye.

The second round of the College Sport Girls preseason and grading matches this afternoon was cancelled owing to the inclement weather.?

In other news, earlier this week, New Zealand school Hamilton Girls’ High School won the SANIX Girls Tournament. Hamilton GHS defeated Iwami Chisyikan High School in their semi-final and then Fukuoka Ladies Rugby Football Club in their final.
