The Final Round of games in the Fleurs Trophy is being played under lights tomorrow night.

This is the third round of Friday Night games. All games are at 7.45pm.

Four sides have booked their spots for the five-team second round championship, these being Norths Oriental-Rongotai, Old Boys University and Hutt Old Boys Marist. Avalon and Wainuiomata are the two sides still alive to join them in the top tier.

Next week the competition splits into Top 5 playing for the Victoria Tavern Trophy (a single round robin, semi-finals and a final) and the bottom 4 playing in the Senior Women’s competition (a double round-robin and a final) The club season will aim to be completed on Saturday 1 August. Draws for the second round will be posted on Club Rugby next week.

Round Nine Previews

Norths (1st place) have cemented the first round trophy and play OBU (3rd) at Te Whaea. This will be an interesting game for OBU wanting to gauge their position moving into the second round against their traditional partners, coming off a big win over Tawa last week; this will be a different game altogether. Norths, who outclassed Wainuiomata last week, will aim to finish the round unbeaten.

Poneke (7th) play Wainuiomata (6th) at the St Pat’s artificial ground. Poneke have shown improvement this season and after a tough loss to HOBM last week they will be looking to amend this on Friday.Wainuiomata will be aiming for a win and will be keeping a close eye on the Avalon result to understand where they will be playing in the second round.

Avalon (5th) are at home on the Fraser Park turf against Tawa (8th) and they will be confident of a positive result after their disappointing last outing with Ories. Tawa, being outclassed by OBU last week, will be hoping for a closer scoreline and may surprise.

Ories (2nd) go to the Alex Moore Turf to play Johnsonville (9th). Ories are huge favourites for this game. They will be all class and may use this game to trying new things. Johnsonville on the other hand will try their hardest and full credit to them for turning out to all games apart from the Wainuiomata game (due to many injuries). They will be motivated as they come off a bye and previous to that they scored their first try.

As a matter of note, the Avalon v Wainuiomata game that was postponed owing to the Fraser Park artificial not being certified in time will not be played, with the WRFU awarding both sides three points.

Wellington Women’s club community, teams and Club Rugby wishes to pass our condolences to the Collins family. Losing Jerry has affected many of us in our rugby community, locally and internationally. The Collins sisters, Tiana, Brenda and Helen, are loyal members in our Women’s game and currently play for Norths. They have over the years represented teams at high levels locally and in representative and international rugby. This is testament to the family who are valued members in our rugby family. We pass our love, thoughts and prayers to the Collins family.
