Pride and Development teams set for JCS matches

It’s the final big afternoon of the year at Jerry Collins Stadium at Porirua Park tomorrow, with the Wellington Pride and Wellington Development teams playing back-to-back at 12pm and 2pm.

First up, the Pride host the North Harbour Hibiscus side in their Farah Palmer Cup Championship 1 v 4 semi-final. This is followed by the Wellington Development hosting Auckland B in the final hit-out of the year for both teams.

The Wellington Development side enters its concluding match of the year looking for a third consecutive win, after being tipped over by Tasman B (39-46) in the opening contest of the campaign.

Since then the Development team has had big wins over the Hawke’s Bay Saracens (59-31 ) and Canterbury B last weekend in Christchurch (41-19).

The Wellington Development side goes into this match with an all-new front row from that which beat Canterbury B last week, including previously injured Blues hooker Leni Apisai starting in the rake position. Lise Soloa returns to the starting XV at No. 8, for Matt Peni, while His HOBM teammates Sheridan Rangihuna and Fereti Soloa slot into halfback and left wing respectively.

The Auckland Bs will field a similar club-based side with a smattering of current and former NPC players for their final outing of the year against Wellington.

Auckland have had a fortnight off since their previous match, which was a 19-24 loss to Taranaki B in New Plymouth.

Prior to that they swept all before them in winning the 2018 Northern Region B competition with that Taranaki match to spare.

Their wins were over Northland B (32-29), the Auckland Colts (83-10), Waikato B (49-17), North Harbour B (39-37) and Counties Manukau B (45-7).

Last year, the Wellington Development side won this match 50-28 at Colin Maiden Park.

The Wellington Pride will be hoping to emulate their 50-10 win over North Harbour when they met on the North Shore a fortnight ago.

Heading into this semi-final the Pride have won 5 of 6 WNPC games, having scored 359 points and conceded 86 and scored 55 tries. The Hibiscus have won 2 of 6 encounters, having scored 150 points and conceded 187 and scored 23 tries.

The Pride have made a few changes from the team that tonned up against Taranaki last weekend, with left wing Ayesha Leti-L’iga replaced by Dhys Faleafaga and Timena Tuam’ai coming in for Sieni Mose at fullback. There are also several personnel changes to the forwards.

Pride and Development teams are listed below (both subject to change).

Elsewhere, the first leg of the American Ambassador’s sevens is tomorrow at Maoribank Park. Visit WRFU channels to view the teams and draw.
