New Poneke Ravens team invites new players

Want to play rugby in 2013? The new Poneke Ravens team is positioning itself as a great social team for beginners to feel welcome and learn what club rugby is like on and off the field. The team will also welcome those individuals that cannot make every training during the week through work commitments but want to be part of a team and get their boots dirty on a Saturday.

The Poneke Ravens is a new U85kg weight restricted team for 2013. With the Poneke Dogs of War on leave from active duty and the Cavs starting to take things a bit more seriously working towards being contenders in Division 1 this year a new social team called the Ravens is being introduced.

A unique positioning the team is hoping to achieve is attract new migrants to New Zealand. The Poneke club has a rich history of ethnic minorities playing for the club. Focusing on broadening their new horizons and respecting every individuals needs and circumstances in helping them achieve what they are looking to get out of playing for Poneke.

The Ravens are looking to be competitive in the lower division of the competition “With a solid coaching roster and the club’s support in providing coaching clinics and having top players lending a hand with sharing their expertise, we hope to create a great team environment,” said Ravens team organiser? James Manttan.

“Weight restricted rugby is fast and competitive and extremely satisfying,” James added, “so if you want to give rugby a try or keen to keep playing but cannot make all the trainings and looking to part of a social club and team that is extremely welcoming to all its people then the Ravens is your new team."

Currently both the Ravens and the Cavs are playing touch on a Wednesday afternoon and anyone is welcome? to come along and meet some of the players.

Social events that are held on the calendar include annual team BBQ and pub crawl as well as many Poneke social activities throughout the season that they share with the local Netball girls and East Netball.
