Northern United Women?s team to join Wellington Men in Australian 7s tournament

Wellington club fifteens and American Ambassador's Women's Sevens champions Northern United will join the national champion Wellington Men's Sevens side at the Central Coast International Sevens Rugby Festival taking place on 25 and 26 October.

Billed as the premier women's rugby sevens tournament in the southern hemisphere, Norths will join the returning Bay of Plenty Women's representative team and a number of Australian and international teams competing for the Kinsio Cup. 2013 Australian National Sevens champions the ACT Brumbies, invitational side Tribe 7s, Japan's Kanto champion Rugirl 7, the Fijian national team, Stars Rugby from the USA and 2016 Olympic host nation Brazil are all confirmed starters.

The Norths Women's team will head across the Tasman with the Wellington representative Men's team, who won January's New Zealand national tournament in Rotorua.

The Central Coast event is widely regarded as Australia's premier domestic sevens tournament featuring explosive on field action and a vibrant sideline family festival, say tournament organisers.

Rugby Sevens is the fastest growing team sport in the world enjoying a magnificent rise in popularity as the game heads toward featuring at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
